Dwell Pocket Damage
This one here is a funny one. At first glance, you'll want to chalk this up to rail damage, but fast forward 2 hours later and your bank account is empty and your daughter's knocked up! All because the screw timing was advanced just a touch too far ahead and was damaging your cans all along! If the screw timing is to far advanced, or the dwell start corner is too far above center and you set your rails with the can deepened into the pocket, the leading edge of the screw cutaway can strike a line in the side of the can. As you can see from the photo, after the can has lifted, it spins so quickly that it makes contact twice.
Order of Operations:
Check the dwell start corner and ensure that it is not above the center line of the screw.
Jog a can to the lift pad and guarantee the can is centered on the lift pad.
Ensure the lifter is operating cleanly and not getting bound up during the lift.
